Ventura Spanish Revival Interior, Exterior and Garden Design
This classic 1928 Spanish Revival home located on a busy corner in Midtown Ventura, California was completely renovated over a 3 year period. The artful 1920's interior was enhanced with a colorful paint palette, of creamy yellow, sage green, red, blue and off white. Reproduction Malibu tile was used on the main stairway to accent the original red oak floors. The existing fireplace and niche was faced with neutral colored travertine marble. All non period lighting was replaced with 1920's antique fixtures. The kitchen was tastefully updated with custom Birch cabinets, granite countertops and a travertine marble back splash.

Courtyard
Terrace doors open from the living room into a circular courtyard. Australian Tree Fern, Potato Vine, Star Jasmine , Flax, fuchsia and Nandina, were selected to border the interior and exterior planting beds. A fired clay water fountian helps screen noise from the adjoining busy street.

Secret Garden
The secret garden was created from an unused 10'x15' (Avocado leaf filled) side yard. Redwood Lattice was mounted to the top of the existing 3' block wall, Barbara Kurst Red Bougainvillea and Potato vine were planted to provide color and screening from the adjoining street. A tropical effect was achieved by planting bromeliads, orchids and Spanish Moss in the existing Avocado trees. Ferns were planted at the base of the trees. The ground was covered with Flagstone set in a sand base then edged with smooth river rock and pea gravel. A handcrafted wrought iron gate accented the custom redwood cross fencing. The entry gates and 1920's garage carriage doors were replaced with handcrafted clear redwood tongue and groove custom built gates and doors. Antique hardware was fitted to the carriage doors and reproduction hardware used on the gates.

Santa Paula Ranch Landscaping Design
The natural beauty of this 25 acre Oak-studded horse ranch near the Southern California coast was enhanced with the addition of colorful low-water and drought-tolerant plants. Pride of Madeira, lavender, sage, several varieties of salvia, and ground covers were used as islands of color throughout the property. Additional boulders found on the property were placed to add interest and define the main road. Included in the plan is a native wild flower garden, dry riverbed with foot bridge, pergola, in-ground fire pit and tree house. When not riding horses one can now stroll the new walking path and enjoy the beautiful views.

Ventura Beach Contemporary Garden Design
Designing a garden for this contemporary home located only one block from the beach in Ventura was determined by its soil - sand - and its architectural features - simple lines. Smooth beach stones were added at the edges of the entry path. Grasses, flax and Nandina were planted on contoured mounds of sand. An asymmetrical wall is to be added in the future.

Garden Borders Design
Garden borders add color, shape, form, and add needed continuity to a well planned landscape design. Punching out the corners with an interesting accent plant can greatly enhance your garden border. Whether you choose borders of native grasses mixed with flax, single flower color borders, foliage borders or just ground covers, if properly planned and executed, borders can become a beautiful focal point of your garden.

Thousand Oaks Contemporary Interior and Landscape Design
This Thousand Oaks hillside contemporary home built in the 80's was desperate for an upgrade. A bold color palate of red, golden rod, eggplant, black and white was carried throughout the 3,000 sq. ft. four level interior. The white and gray Formica kitchen cabinets were replaced with custom cherry wood cabinets. Stainless steel knobs, black glass, granite counters and solid cherry flooring were highlighted by a stylish wire halogen lighting system.

An existing large rock formation at the entry way was enhanced with plantings of lime green Anigozanthos, Lavender, New Zealand Flax, Horsetail and ground cover. Rocks and Boulders were added to create a dry stream bed at the base of the rock formation.
